LEA KALISCH &
DER ŠENSTER GOB

Klezmer-Balkan, rooted & rebellious!
Four traveling musicians and a fierce frontwoman give tradition a facelift: original Yiddish lyrics, folk melodies, rap, jazz and a charming dose of comedy. Lea Kalisch & Der Šenster Gob sing in eight languages and blend acoustic folk music with a theatrical stage presence.

Der Šenster Gob spices up the songs with unpredictable arrangements rooted in Eastern European folk traditions.
The multi-instrumentalists move between accordion, bass, violin, guitar, clarinet and saxophone, alongside a MIDI sequencer and five-part harmonies.
In November 2022, Lea stumbled upon the band jamming in Zurich’s old town. A MATCH MADE IN HEAVEN!
Since then, they have been on the road, performing at festivals, clubs, synagogues and heritage sites including Musikwochen Winterthur, Buskers Bern, Hamakom Nestroyhof Vienna, Roztoc Festival, TepJazz and Vienna’s KlezMORE Festival.
In September 2024, they released their first collaborative album, Shtetl Neshume.
A live album is set to be released in the spring 2027.
Lea Kalisch is a Yiddish Folk Pop singer, actor and entertainer, born in Switzerland, trained in NYC and based in Vienna.
Der Šenster Gob is a Prague-based acoustic band playing Klezmer, Balkan and Gypsy jazz, travelling across Europe in their romantic green wooden caravan.
Together they create a new sound.
Lea’s songwriting draws inspiration from Jewish texts and Yiddish folk traditions, but takes them somewhere gloriously unorthodox — with provocative lyrics, irreverent humor and a rebellious spirit of female freedom.
